Beware of bad reviews of Eddie Harris records. Most are jazz reviews and they tend to not like funk and or hip-hop. I am huge Eddie Harris fan and alwasy thought he was way ahead of his time. I hear tracks he did in the 60′s and 70′s and it sounds like somtheing the Roots would write today. Some great Eddie Harris funk records: “I Need Some Money”, “Is it In?”, “Instant Death”, “That is why you are Over Weight”, ” Bad Luck is All I Have” to name a few are pretty solid in my opinion. “Silver Cycles” and “Free Speech” are also great records in a more experitmental vein. I find that Eddie Harris is sadly over looked and much maligned by many jazz critics, but if you are a funk and hip-hop fan there are some great Eddie Harris records out there.
