Taking a Chance That Paid Off…..

Pay Dirt

Sometimes you take chances and you get burned. Other times you take a chances and they pay off. Such was the case on Saturday morning. Let’s rewind to Friday night, where I was up way too late checking out Scott H. Biram, the Dirty One man Blues Band from Hell (and Austin TX). Scott is a great musician who mixes Blues, Country, Field Hollers, Yodeling, and Death Metal into an amazing show. The guy was hit bit an 18 wheeler, broke every damn bone in his body, and still performs. He’s an amazing performer who will throw in some Zepplin in the middle of a Muddy Waters tune or make you laugh your ass off from stories about his life in between tunes. His original stuff is prety damn good too. At any rate Scott kept me up too late, and I overslept by about an hour. I rushed to my spot and saw all the usual suspects (minus Stinkie Steve). Insert some Dragnet music, rumor has it his escapades may have caught up to him. Hmmmmm. Anyway, I go to my guy, he’s got some great 45sfor me. I’m walking away, and I think, let me check this one spot. There is a huge detergent box full of 45s. Now I do not have time to look through the whole thing, but I see some great labels on top. I had to meet my wife, so I figured, let me take a chance. The guy says it’s only a twenty spot. I buy the whole thing for $20, and get going. Out of the 100+ records in this box, something has to be worth it. The whole ride home I’m pulling a few things out. There are no sleeves, but some look like they can be cleaned up, actually most of them do. When I get home quickly, I start pulling records out. I will not list the entire contents from this box (but I will list my haul from my guy), but the detergent box paid off. It yielded me a copy of Mickey and the Soul Generation’s “Iron Leg”, a pretty piece of Texas Funk. It’s kind of beat up, but still plays. Now I know there are some other gems in there, but that’s all I care about for now.
