With a B Boy mindset and and a DJ’s way of thinking, Smoove has been working hard which has let him live his dream since his early days on the Acid Jazz label. No stranger to major label deals and the like, a shift to the Jalapeno label with music partner John Terrell as well as their “I Can’t Give You Up” single has brought more attention to the duo (and his production) throughout the world. With massive touring and support of such diverse legends as Nile Rodgers and Chic and Martha Reeves and the Vandells, Smoove and Turrell have been a welcome injection of soulful original music that has been coming out of the UK in the last few years. Smoove’s past producing credits include Digital Underground, Bahama Soul Club, Malente, and Andy Smith to name a few, and his latest effort called First Class, is an eclectic group of tunes re-edited by the man himself. Africa Bambaataa, The New Mastersounds, Kraak & Smaak, The Ju Ju Orchestra and more are given the Smoove treatment: a huge boost of energy via Latin rhythms, heavy drums, and percussion that makes your feet move. Today, I’ve chosen Third Degree’s “Cant Get You Out Of My Head”, an upbeat Funk and Dancefloor Jazz killer that begs you to get those Winklepickers on and get your talcam powder out to groove to this scorcher.
