FMF Presents: Ape Jams! A Live Mix

There has been so much good music coming in my inbox lately, I thought I would put together a little mix for you today. It’s some music that makes me feel good, recorded live all in one take in my studio. I’m feeling like it’s been a long time since this much good music has been being made. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up. This whole mix is filled with some new stuff, some old stuff, and some timeless tracks. Starting off with Mr. Adrian Younge and his collaboration with William Hart of the Delfonics, the two combine to give us some cinematic, soundtrack Soul. We go right into some classic Library music by Alan Parker & William Parrish remixed by Strong Island’s Freqnik and WDRE who have been tearing it up as of late in the 7″ and remix category. Speaking of Strong Island, how about an anthem dedicated to crate diggin’ by Oxygen aka Ox the Architect of Sounsci? Up on deck next is some classic Roots Manuva and an excellent instrumental from Jake One. One of my favorite new bands I discovered was Blundetto, so I had to put this Reggae/R & B/Hip Hop track on blast. The next track is what I have had on repeat since I got it: Darryl Reeves tribute to Dilla track followed by Jay Dee himself. Who knew Rudy Ray Moore could be so funky, almost as funky as Les Baxter was on some soundtrack heat? Our man at the organ Jackie Mittoo and the reunited Jurassic 5 had me both reminiscing on the next few tracks. This Is Tomorrow brings us back with some unreleased instrumental Hip Hop (due to sample clearance) out of Luxembourg on a DJ Shadow meets DJ Krush tip right into Seattle’s Polyrthymics Afro Funk. DJ Format and his band The Simon Sound go beyond Disco, Little Roy’s cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium” and some Lee Perry and the Upsetters finish it off with some funky Popcorn. Shout out to the Planet of the Apes, Wayne Kramer, Madlib, and some NYC subway graff for the inspiration. Keep fighting the good fight and putting out good music people. I’ll keep mixing it.

  1. Daddy-o! I can’t get the downloader to give me any downloadable links…it will give the track listing only. I’m on Mac. Anybody else have issues? These mixes look too good to just stream on a little laptop! Thanks!
