ATA Records has been releasing some great music in their discogrphy, and their series Hard Work No Pay has had some top notch musicians covering tunes that we have all enjoyed by artists over the years. The latest in the series is from soul powerhouse Rachel Modest. Applauded by Gilles Peterson as well as soul lovers the world over, Modest has jumped on the radar due to her solo 45 releases and her Ben E. King cover in this very series. This time, she tackles probably one of the best soul tracks of all time Alice Clark’s “Never Did I Stop Loving You” from her 1972 Mainstream release. The epitome of soul music time and time again, Modest’s version is a very fitting tribute to the side. That voice! She comes as close to perfection as she can on this one people. Heavy horns compliment her beautiful voice, and although no one can fill Clark’s shoes, she does an amazing version of this track, which is on repeat this morning. Did we mention that this is a free download too? We have one request: Please put this on 45 ATA Records!
