The machine known as Superjock Records just keeps moving, as they give us another NOLA Breaks record. This time, Professor Shorthair has taken two of the funkiest 45s to come out of The Big Easy and put his own special twist on them. Since everything he was gonna do is funky, it’s fitting that the good Professor chose Lee Dorsey’s “Get Out Of My Life Woman” this time to lead off volume six. Shorthair has a knack for turning super funky tracks into even harder hitting B-Boy cuts, and he’s done the same for this latest forty five. The Dorsey hits like some spicy gumbo, but for us, it’s the flip, The Gaturs “Gatur Bait” that gets the prize on this release. Riding an early 70’s funk vibe even harder, this is the definite cut for the B-Boys and B-Girls out there that want to get down. This record is for the dance floor, for those late night sets to set it off in a big way. The Professor knows his way around a deep bass line and a fat drum break. he can enhance a good song and take it to the next level for sure. The keyboard section into the call and response part nailed it for us (as if the bass line didn’t earlier). So funk it up, funk this party out, and keep ’em dancing with another treat out of Nawlins and Superjock Records. File under hip hop edits, RIYL up rocking and all that good shit.
