Today we’re getting in deep with some present day cinematic funk sounds via Calibro 35. The critically acclaimed Italian outfit who’ve been sampled by Dr. Dre among others, is once again on the radar with a double side of heavy cinematic goodness for your turntable. If you are not yet familiar with them, you’ll no doubt be soon enough, as they have been lighting up record players and stages throughout the world. “Psycheground”, is an afro funk killer, think Tony Allen and African funk at it’s best if applied to a Tarantino production. It’s as authentic as they come and spot on in out opinion. Slowly moving and taking over your senses, this track is one of our favorites from these players out of Milan. You’d think that you were transported to Lagos instead of your home sweet home. The flip, “Polymeri (Afro-Utopia Version)”, is an eerie, definitely needs to be in a soundtrack tune. A slow burner that builds to a boil, this full on jam is a great partner to the A. These forty fives don’t hang around long, and neither do Calibro 35. Sharing stages with everyone from Roy Ayers to the Sun Ra Arkestra, if you can’t get your hands on this record, you will need to check them out live. Stream both tracks below and order the record after the stream. More goodness out of the Record Kicks camp.
