The Natural Yogurt Band – Colours

Sailing through the universe at their own pace, The Natural Yougurt Band is back once again with new music. They’ve released long players on Jazzman and Now Again, plus two EPs, and now they are back once more with a full length Braille, Slate & Stylus on the illustrious Black Milk Music label from France. The Breaston, UK outfit do what they do best: intermingle deep psychedelic funk grooves with library music, African rhythms, and sometimes free jazz. Rolled up like a big spliff, this ride to outer space is what we imagine the Mars Rover Discovery heard throughout its journey to the red planet. Their music goes deep, and the first single released, “Colours” illustrates that perfectly. With consistent stick work from Neil Tolliday, synthesizers and keyboards for days, plus grooves that lead you far out of this world, this batch of tracks comes together from the brain of Miles Newbold. Tune in, turn on, drop out, Newbold knows how to precisely make perfect music with this combination of sounds. It’s like a lullaby for adults mixed with mind altering chemicals and a full tank of rocket fuel. If this is your first introduction to the Natural Yogurt Band, congratulations. Now rewind back and check out their other offerings. You’ll no doubt get caught in a rabbit hole of outer space and outer body rhythms and grooves that will take you to a place musically you may not have been. The record is available for release on May 3, 2019 on BMM and contains artwork from Corentin Ohmann & Samy Abboud. Another solid offering for those who like to push the boundaries of their music.
