Randa & The Soul Kingdom – Put Your Hands Up

If you want to dance this morning, then you’ve come to the right place. There’s some funky soul on deck and it’s a fantastic party track that is sure to get the masses moving their asses wherever they are, dance floor or not! The Perth, Australia band Randa & the Soul Kingdom aka the most isolated funk and soul band from the most isolated city in West Australia is back with “Put Your Hands Up”. After two releases on London’s Freestyle Records and touring extensively across Europe and Austrlia, the band gives us a taste of what’s to come with this new single. The song is about freedom from being treated differently whether it’s your skin, your background, or how old you are. This is something vocalist Randa Khamis has experienced first-hand being of Palestinian descent and raised in Australia.

It’s about claiming your freedom, your right to express yourself without judgement. Too often we are treated differently say for example cause of the colour of our skin, or our class or age. So when you put your hands Up to dance it’s also making a stand to fight for your right to be free without judgement.

The track itself echoes feelings of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings mixed with late ’60s soulful girl-led funk and some Midwest soul stomping from the very first needle drop. It’s filled with energy, high voltage horns, a backbeat that hits hard, and of course Randa’s super energetic and commanding voice that leads the charge of this upbeat track. This side is just a little bite of their full-length record that is slated for a September 2020 release. Let’s hope that when we all get back to normal (or as normal as we can be), we get to see Randa & the Soul Kingdom tearing up a stage near us very soon. Check out the track below and order the 45 after the stream.
