Sapria: Strain b/w Initiation

Starting the week off with some new music from one of our favorite labels in the last ten years, Delights, we dig in to the Jerusalem-based label’s latest release from the newest band on their roster, Sapria. The band was born out of a spontaneous studio session in late 2018 and features a Jerusalem/ Berlin connection with the following players: Sun Ra Bullock (X.A. Cute/Edelfaul Records) and Markey Funk (Group Modular/Delights) (keys), Itai Anker (Hynom/Andarta/Raash Records) (bass), and Yadin Katz (The Turbans/YMKA) (drums). This super group is taking no prisoners on a double-sided horror funk master class forty-five.

Think John Carpenter meeting James Brown dressed as Dracula on a dark October night while trick or treating and breaking out in a spontaneous jam session.

The Delights sound is very strong and prevalent throughout this seven. On “Strain”, the heavy cinematic and original soundtrack feels are present right from the star. With a deep funk groove that quickly switches into some horror movie steez and hearty synth work, Sapria make their mark early with this one. Think John Carpenter meeting James Brown dressed as Dracula on a dark October night while trick or treating and breaking out in to a spontaneous jam session. Oh, did we mention that the libray-esque OST vibes are down right nasty? These definitely belong as a soundtrack to the big screen, either now or mid ’70s. The flip, “Initiation” is a slow burning, downward spiral of eerie, horror funk and a mesmerizing, trance inducing B-Side that explains why Delights is leading the way in this kind of genre by a country mile.

Listen to both tracks below, some of the heaviest cuts in the label’s discography since its inception and pre-order from the label after the stream below.

Pre-order this record, out May 7th.
