Eleven76: The Scarab’s Quest

Always on time and on point, the Mocambo Record Corporation has been known to let loose with some heavy percussion and bring the house down with sounds from bands like the Mighty Mocambos who rock dancefloors from Berlin to Biarritz. The sound is very distinctive and the label has a reputation for getting the job done on wax and on a live stage. This time, however, it’s the Mocambos, but another mighty band, Eleven76 that are in the spotlight.

This track has a deep Middle Eastern influence to it with heavy, heavy drums and percussion as well as a grip of insect effects that would have David Attenborough squealing with delight.

We’ve heard from this band before with Space Voyage, an EP from the vaults of Warner Chappell’s production archive produced by the director of The Library Music Film Paul Elliot. This was originally intended for films and contained some great analog synths, hearty drums, as well as sound effects that would trip the listener out. The EP made the music available outside the film usage realm. It quickly caught on the diggers and producers for its unique sounds. Library music at its best. Fast forward to now, Eleven76 are back with “The Scarab’s Quest”. An all instrumental affair, this one shifts from a spacey theme to the insect world. The track has a deep Middle Eastern influence to it with heavy, heavy drums and percussion as well as a grip of effects that would have David Attenborough squealing with delight. Very much library music, it’s also got a B-Boy feel to it, complete with a breakdown, spacey synths, and a mid to late ’70s feel we can all get down to. The scarab meets library music uptown, dig? Recorded on vintage equipment and tape machines this one earns a highly respected spot in your 45 box. Get it before it’s gone, as Space Voyage is a tough one to get and this one will be too. Hear us now. This record will be on many want lists in years to come. Listen to the track below and order after the stream.
