I’m gonna be short and sweet today people. I’m still reeling from last night’s show at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC. I attended the Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings Record release party there, and well, I’m tired as hell. I did manage to dig yesterday, but got the call midday to head up to the city. It was a great time, I got to check out the famous Lenox Lounge afterwards (where I got stuck in the bathroom), and I want to give a shout out to Cool Hands Luke for inviting me to the show. Tomorrow’s post will be a review of the Daptone Soul Revue at the World Famous Apollo. For now, here’s a list of the scores from Saturday.

The show last night was indeed smokin’! I only wish I had got my tix earlier so I didn’t have to be stranded in the back row. Can’t wait for your report on the show so maybe I can find out who was on the hammond in the opening set.
grand funk.
I’m jealous! Sharon & co. were supposed to play here in town last fall at the Sonar club. As fate would have it (tickets bought and paid for mind you), the show was cancelled due to poor ticket sales. If that’s any indication of the piss poor club scene here in Baltimore, then so be it. Suffice it to say I’m still salty because how annoying is it to hear the same old Chicago house music (disguised as Bmore club) blaring out of nightclub doors. I mean that s#!t is over twenty years old for crying out loud! Oh well, I’m rocking the new CD at any rate. Great stuff!
What’s up with the Ray Charles 45? Could it be a collectors piece?
i believe they now disguise it as baltimore bass and turntable lab loves those guys.
not too sure about the ray charles, but i grabbed it anyway due to the misspelling.
a bummer about the sharon jones show. i need to get to more shows!
what other funk acts have you seen live?
i saw jimmy smith before, not so much straight ahead funk, but hammond jazz funk. i’ll have to dig out my photo of him in his pink suit.
i gotta see that…try to post it if you find it
yeah it’s around, i’ll find it. he got on stage and said: “i’m jimmy smith and this is music for black folk”.
Good record haul. So, when can we expect a ghostly sounds mix?
the intro to the guest mix for this is tomorrow was from a ghost stories record. this one will get some use for sure.
I would like to go to Blowfly’s Party.
Consider it a request, you crazed killer, you.
