A Day With No Digging

Schroeder

Every once in a while you have to make some “real world moves” as the saying goes. Unfortunately, it cuts into your digging time. I used to get all crazy about it, but I certainly have enough records around, and well, you can’t have all of the vinyl (but you can hope!). So suffice to say, no FMU record fair and no Spot this morning. Today is a day to make some real world moves, do some errands, and spend some quality time with my wife, plus Liverpool play Blackburn on FSW. It’s the coldest day of the Fall season so far, with a 60% chance of rain, so I’ve decided to relax a bit. I’m a bit tired, I did DJ last night at the World Famous Asbury Lanes. There were three bands, but clearly the band that stuck out was Black Jesuses, who reminded me of the Black Keys. This duo was actually really tight, and I was excited that there is a band like that in my area who “Play Blues songs the electric way.” I’m trying to pull my live set from JamNow, so when I get it I’ll post it. There was no monitor last night so I’m not making any promises. I played a wide variety of stuff, so it will be interesting to say the least. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve added a top 5 45s of the moment on the right, which will change once a week. Also, all the podcasts are still available, as well as a few bonus mixes.

So as I head off into a French press of some coffee, a warm blanket and hopefully a Liverpool victory, I’m gonna leave you with a video from the Daptone Records camp. Now if you read this blog you know I ride for Daptone all day every day. They just keep raising the bar higher and higher, and this video proves that it’s really 1970 every day for them. I don’t approve of their new label Retro Soul. Rubbish. This is real Funk and Soul music, it just so happens to be made in 2007. This is the closest to the sound we have in this day and age in the piles and piles of 45s we all have and are crazy to try and find. Enjoy it. I’m hoping to put the finishing touches on the new podcast for Monday, so stay tuned for that as well. Keep Diggin’!

  1. That’s a cool video. The new album is good – little less funky than the last one, but a bit more soulful.

By the way, I’ve added you to my blogroll – great thing you’ve got going on here.

  2. I was just going to e-mail to see if you hit FMU.
Spent the day doing errands on this end as well. I actually set foot in Monmouth Mall for the first time in YEARS.
    Good times.

  3. Great choice – I know these guys have backed Amy Wino’ but why listen to her when you can have the daps’ doing the real deal

PS added you to my BlogRoll

  4. Bummer, bummer. I got a postcard from WFMU in the mail too, but no soap for me either. I’m really jonesing for a good record dig, hopefully this weekend. Will there be a 45 Sessions this month? Leslie and I want to come up and party down with you all for my birthday.

    Peace and blessings.
