Last night I got the chance to DJ the last party of the Crybaby Gallery here in Asbury Park. They’re moving to another location, and to celebrate their last show in that particular space, they had an opening ( or should I say closing?) and party. The name of the show was SuperFantasticDoubleFunTime, and featured local and national artists such as PorkChop, Squindo, PunchGut, Jason Ruolphena, Joe Nicita, Bradley Hoffer, Seen, and a slew of others. The vibe was great, the beer was flowing from the makeshift cooler aka the claw foot bathtub. It was a who’s who of the Asbury Park Music and Art scene throughout the night. The First Night monthly has been notorious for really sucking. The city of Asbury Park has tried theme nights for their FN activities which in the past were quite ridiculous. It’s hard enough to get people to come into this town (it’s a great town, come see for yourself!), but to pull some corny shit month after month just was not working. They do not cater to the population that makes it work, but rather to what they think the population should be, but doesn’t live here. I could go on for days, maybe it’s for another blog. There are many talented and creative individuals in this area, and they always show up strong for these kinds of events. It looks like this new experiment with FN worked, and I’m glad to have been a part of it once again.
There was a Latin theme this First Night, so DJ Jack the Ripper, Silent G, and myself held it down on the turntables with the Latin flavor. Much fun was had, the art was some of the best I’ve seen in that gallery since it’s inception, and the music of course, was right on point. Enjoy some photos from the night, as well as my set list:
