Damu The Fudgemunk HISS Vol. 3, 4, & 5

HISS 345When I got into record collecting, it was all about a drum break or sample. As I progress musically in life, I am still looking for that. Whether it be on some French soundtrack record that stars Charles Bronson, a latin heater, or instrumental hip hop, I’m trying to get “that feeling” back. The feeling when I first discovered a Gang Starr record, and then found the original drum break digging, or when I heard a funky soul jazz record and put it on repeat. That feeling comes back to me every time I put the needle on a Damu The Fudgemunk record. Every time guaranteed. His drums (live and programmed) and the way he layers his songs just bring me back. They bring me back to a point and time when hip hop was simpler, the beats were raw, and you just wanted to to turn it up louder because it was the only thing that mattered. I feel that way after any Damu record, his music speaks to the listener that much. His latest effort on Redefinition Records, available now, is How It Should Sound Vol. 3, 4, & 5.

“The tracks are a combination of my many obvious influences, my personal passion to contribute to the genre, and to challenge the craft and the record collection I was building. Some of the techniques and styles associated with my production were in the discovery phase. I was developing my sound and also discovering new artists and records along the way, with each new element giving me additional inspiration, layer by layer.”- Damu The Fudgemunk 2015

After the success of HISS Vol. 1 & 2, Damu set out to do Volumes 3 & 4. Recorded in the middle of January 2015 right before his first European tour, these tracks could not be whittled down to just two volumes. So what does an artist and forward thinking record label do to remedy this situation? They put the extra music that was too tough to cut in another volume and Viola!, we get volume 5. And are we sure glad they did. HISS Vol. 3, 4, & 5 is 28 tracks of pure gold. If you are a fan of good, innovative production, hard drums, and feeling good, then this is the record for you. Because that’s what music is supposed to do. It’s supposed to get you emotional, elicit feelings, and make you feel a certain way. These three volumes do just that. I am transported back to so many good times within my music career with these beats. Taken back to many “Oh shit!” moments, good vibrations from digging in the field or just watching the sunrise with a good song in my headphones, the over arching message we get from these three volumes of music is feeling good. Damu the Fudgemunk has a gift. He’s not just a talented musician, producer, and DJ, he is a cat who can make people feel good with his message of music. Take a listen to the tracks below and also enjoy a nine minute video collage with Behind The Scenes / Live Footage, featuring cameos by Insight, K-Def, Pro Era’s Chuck Strangers & more. Feeling good is free, so don’t miss out on your chance to brighten up your day with this music.
