Since I was washed out yesterday, and my digging day shot, I decided to hit up the spot today. Sunday is a great day there (we usually go later), but I hit it up while the temperature was still in the 50’s, and managed to score a great Reggae haul, plus some Jazz, Funk and Soul. Of course the usual suspects were abound, Egg Beard was stopping cars before they unloaded, dillegently trying to uncover some private press jazz 78s, or anything he can get his hands on. I saw him doing his schtick and made a B line for record row. I uncovered some Jazz Lps right away (take that Eggy!), and also a nice copy of Jimmy Smith “The Sermon” on Blue Note, which the E Bay maniac would have fought for for sure. My record guy’s car broke down, but he was still able to get me some great 45s. The Wine Guy was too busy passing out his home made wine at 8am to the Hot Doggy Dog guy ( he sells dirty water dogs and yells out: “Hot Doggy Dog!!!”, this is at 7am too) to even care about his dollar Jazz records. That’s a bonus for me.
So the two pics up top are priceless really. A young man was selling his paintings, and who doesn’t want a naked Micheal Jackson painting circa the Thriller days? The complete shrine to Jesus and the Pope was in a van on the way out. The guy had records, and I climbed in the van and snapped his shrine for driving. God is definitely that cat’s co-pilot, while MJ, well, he’s not the greatest co-pilot, but if you can’t get down to “Off the Wall”, then you just don’t get it. I did have a new guy/gal sighting, who I will call Pat. Dressed in a sleek black number, he/ she was putting out some crocheted items as well as used cleaning products( wtf?), and really to be enjoying it. I was in and out, got my records, and hit the road, jamming to J-Dilla’s “Ruff Draft” on the way home. Sometimes I can listen to those short beats he does for days. My favorite is the English kid singing “Come on Feel the Noise”, and I can just see Jay Dee pounding on the MPC making that beat. That’s what it is at the spot: wild, wild, wild.
