DJ Andy Smith Live at Notting Hill Carnival

Feeling in the Reggae spirit again this Monday, I saw that my man DJ Andy Smith was a selector with Gladdy Wax Sound System over at the Notting Hill Carnival this past weekend. Those of you may be familiar with Andy’s Document series, but he released Reggae specific mixes with the Trojan and Greensleeves Document as well. With a keen ear for the classics, and a a knack for being able to turn of good records, it’s no wonder that the Gladdy Sound System had Smith bless the decks once again this year. As well as digging for that 45 gold, Andy is also a DJ over at Colourful Radio, where he and Colourful’s Keith Lawrence have joined forces to release Jamaican Funk Experience, another banger for sure. Here’s a video courtesy of Tim Schnetgoeke of Andy rocking the crowd. The following recording has Smith selecting choons from the Skatalites to 50’s R & B scorchers such as Larry Dale and Ray Charles to Millie Small and all the Ska in between, all the while keeping the crowd on their toes. From the video, it looks like the whole time people couldn’t sit still. Good on ya Andy!

Shout out Andy over at his website.

Keep Diggin’!

  1. WooW! Thank you so much for this. Those early R&B tracks that were influencial to ska are an absolute revelation to me. Thanks again!
