Well it seems that Big Ups alum Adam Gibbons aka Lack of Afro has been a busy boy. The drummer/DJ/producer, set to release his fourth studio album Music For Adverts in Spring 2014 is killing it with this latest single “P.A.R.T.Y.” There are two versions, a vocal featuring Def Jam artists Wax and Herbal T, and a yet to be released instrumental, which is hard hitting. B Boys take note, you may be dancing to this at some point, it’s a breaker’s delight. Currently used for a Foot Locker x Adidas Originals commercial featuring Chelsea (and former Liverpool) striker Fernando Torres, this is a track to definitely get people moving. Gibbons is known for putting out original bangers. His funky tracks have covered bands like the Arctic Monkeys and his music has moved asses all over the world. This one, good people, is no exception. It is a belter of a song that will hopefully find its way into your record box.
Let’s listen a bit more closely. YouTube sensation, rapper and multi-instrumentalist himself, Wax and his twin brother Herbal T get down proper on this feel good side. These two left of the dial musicians/ rappers fit in perfectly with Gibbons and his musical style. While the boys are nice on the vocals, it’s really Lack of Afro’s heavy, heavy drums and the Soul horn samples that do it for me though. That’s how we get down here at FMF. If I had my choice, it’s the instrumental all the way, but honestly the Jones twins hold it down on their side quite nice. the tune is catchy, and Foot Locker did a nice job giving it some street cred in the video/ commercial. I may not be the biggest fan of Torres, but the video really gave the song a face, and not just because B Boys and DJs are trendy. It all works together IMHO. We are huge supporters of Lack of Afro here at Flea Market Funk, and it’s always nice to see people movin’ on up like Curtis with their new efforts. Much more to come from Lack of Afro in 2014, so be on the look out.
