We are always on the lookout for some quality collaborations, and this 7″ out of the Redefinition Records camp is just what we needed on a gloomy day here in Jersey. Mix tape king and power broker in the hip hop game, DJ EFN has been a huge influence in music, marketing, movies, and more since he dropped his first mix tape many years ago. Whether it be releasing dope records like Another Time where he collaborates with Scarface, Talib Kweli, Killer Mike, Redman, Rass Kass, and more, or putting out movies on Diddy’s Revolt channel, his influence reaches farther than the white beaches of Miami, Florida. This time it reached New Jersey native and on point veteran producer K-DEF, a force to be reckoned with on his own, to form a duo and remix this track off of the Another Time project. With a who’s who of old and new emcees, “Revolutionary Ride” is a whole different feel than the original mix. But isn’t that how it’s supposed to be? The original horn stab is replaced by K-DEF with some some moody and atmospheric samples and rock hard drums to take this tune in another direction. In fact, there aren’t enough remixes today that make the song a whole different animal. When I hear a remix, I want night and day like the “Scenario” remix, you dig? That’s what K-DEF brings, and if you’re not up on this talented producer, do your homework. He has been killing it since the 90’s. We haven’t even got into the spitting on this track yet, because on the strength of the beat it’s already dope. Add in Your Old Droog, Royce the 5’9″, Reks, and OC, and well, you’ve got an chemical reaction that explodes on the mic. Speaking of chemistry, who says newer emcees can’t get with the old? Plenty of chemistry on this track. No beef on this 7″, just a pure, cohesive flow. But, it doesn’t end there. The flip, “Selfish”, features King T, Fashawn, and Kurupt. Enough said. Both sides are heat in our book. Sleeve artwork done by the impeccable Joe Buck, so not only is the music right on time, the sleeve is fresh as well. Full package.
