After the sad passing of Phife from A Tribe Called Quest, who was working on a solo project at the time of his death, his family has decided to see his wishes through and release music from what would have been his latest release, Give Thanks. They are going to debut a Dilla produced track (licensed from the estate of J.Dilla) “Nutshell”. This single will feature Phife’s legendary wordplay, self described “in a nutshell, so to speak”. Debuting today on Beats Radio 1 with Ebro Darden and at an invite only video screening at the legendary Apollo Theater in NYC, live streamed by Revolt.
Phife loved his fans, and was so excited for them to hear his new music. I feel like he would have wanted it this way.- Deisha, wife of Phife Dawg
50% of the proceeds from the sale of the song (available on iTunes) to a few organizations that were near and dear to the Five Footers heart: The American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation. During his stay on this planet, Phife worked tirelessly to help educate the youth about diabetes. 26 million people in the United States have kidney disease, most are not even aware that they have it. His legacy will continue to help people in need. Even in death, Phife is helping the world in his own way. As soon as we get the song to stream, we will have it here on FleaMarket Funk. Here’s a teaser video below featuring many artists he collaborated with. Stay tuned for more.
