We have been fans of Eric Cooke aka E Da Boss aka E of (Myron and E) for quite some time. The man takes a classic soul approach to his projects, and they hit home both lyrically and musically. This time, he’s on his own, sort of, with some help from vocalist Ishtar on Mocambo Records latest vinyl only 45 release, “The Turning Point”. A champion of the 45 and great soul records, it’s not surprising that E makes music like they used to. His previous efforts on Timmion and Stones Throw mirrors late ’60’s raw soul filled with heartache and true feelings to a tee. This particular release does the same. Filled to the brim with an atmosphere of an original soundtrack, the cinematic sounds echo right through your ears. The horns (what’s a Mocambo release without horns?) and tight back beat pair perfect with E and Ishtar’s back and forth break up that unfolds right in front of the listener’s ear. Shades of The Delfonics meets Adrian Younge is what we’re hearing from E’s latest 45. Both of these talented vocalists do soul music justice, and we’re excited as each new project comes out. It’s a release like this that keeps us steady piling up E Da Boss affiliated records. If you like your soul music with a lot of body, then this song is for you. The horn solos and fuzzy guitars don’t hurt either. The flip is the instrumental of the A, which is just as dope as the vocal version. Check out a snippet of the side below.
