Primitive Sound System – Eatin’ & Drinkin’ Vol. 1

I always have something going on here at FleaMarket Funk. I try to keep it interesting, from the photos I use to the records I choose, I’d like to keep this little piece of cyberspace unique. Over the last few years I have been fortunate enough to meet a lot of great people. The guy who did this mix is one of them. Pat James Longo aka Primitive Sound System and I met through photographer Eilon Paz. We were both featured on Eilon’s site: Dust and Grooves, along with other DJ’s and collectors because of our love and obsession with vinyl. Pat is one of the most down to earth guys I have ever met. Although we don’t get to hang as much as we’d like to talk about 45’s over really good beer, we still manage to chew the fat as much as we can. We were talking one day about food and beverage records. Pat was saying how many of these kinds of records he has. I had a great idea: a mix for FleaMarket Funk! I love to spread the word myself, but when my friends get into the act, it’s even better. So here is the first of many mixes (I hope) from Primitive Sound System, all about Eatin’ and Drinkin’. Check out Pat’s interview for Dust and Grooves here.

  1. Junior Walker had a nice album cover on”home cookin” a 1969 Motown release. It had a great picture of him with soul food from his favorite diner

  2. and then there is the Jimmy Smith/ Wes Montgomery album cover

“The Dynamic Duo” where they share a baloney hero, grinder or what ever they call that samich in NJ.

  3. I am reminded of the Porter Wagoner RCA album cover LSP 3968 (1968)

    “The Bottom Of the Barrel”

It contains many booze related country sogs
