I got a message from the good people over at Cultures of Soul yesterday. These guys really have it going on. Not only are they a fully functioning record label, but DJ’s, heavy diggers, and huge supporters of DJ culture. I’ve featured their releases on my mixes, and am really excited to hear about this upcoming release. There have been tons of mixes with cover songs: all Beatles Funk and Soul covers, Jazz covers, Rock covers, and the like. This one is really special. From Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Wonder to The Temptations to the Doors to modern bands like Spoon and the White Stripes, World’s Funkiest Covers is on point. The funky ass release is available on October 25th. My fave is Johnny Jones and the King Casuals doing “Purple Haze” (although T.Swift and the Electric Bag do a bang up job of the side as well, just not as funky), but from the preview, this compilation looks to be smoking. Keep your ears out for this one folks. Keep Diggin’!
