Jim Sharp – Straighten It Out

I get all kinds of submissions here at FMF, and as I go through about a week’s worth of emails, Straighten It Out by Jim Sharp is blasting through my speakers. A trip through sample heaven (Naughty BY Nature, Blackstreet, the Biz, Biggie, Pete Rock, Wu-Tang, and ATCQ among others) carefully re-edited and put down in a tasteful mix that will make your neck snap. Jim Sharp is trying to recreate the vibe at Ali B’s famous Saturday night Paradise sessions in West London. Everyone from the Chemical Brothers to Lily Allen to Paul Weller have swung through the night to hang, spin, and of course dance til the wee hours. Sharp has done a superb job with this mix, hitting the sample heads with looped drum breaks and samples, while also keeping the dancers moving and recreating the vibe. There a whole bag of goodies including a Pilooski edit of Dee Edwards, as well as blends of Tribe, JB, Ghostface, and more. This kind of blend always makes me say: “Oh Shit!”, and I can see this mix getting a lot of spins at FMF. Thanks to Jim for sending this over. Hope this mix gets your Monday going.
