DJ Day has been making real beats, DJing, and producing out of Palm Springs, CA his whole life. His ¡Reunión! party is legendary, and if you aren’t familiar with him as a DJ or producer, I’d suggest you get familiar. Championed by legends DJ Jazzy Jeff and Gilles Peterson, plus working with artists like PUTS, Aloe Blacc, Quantic and Alice Russell among others, Day has been doing it and doing it well for more than a minute. What I always liked about Day is that his music could take me back to the Golden Age of Hip Hop, when music mattered, and it was actually good. His music does that to a person. Few artists do that today (no disrespect to those who are doing it right, you know who you are), and can make tracks like DJ Day does. I’m happy to have DJ Day in this week’s installment of Big Ups.
