The Return of Vinyl Hunt

When I wrote the feature on The Vinyl District’s Record Store Locator early this year, I mentioned an old site that used to be the go to internet site to find record stores throughout the world. The site, for lack of better words, fell off. Imagine my surprise when I saw that it had been revamped, bigger and much better. Re-introducing, Vinyl Hunt.

Created by vinyl collector Steve Salcedo way back in 2006, Vinyl Hunt is an online data base and social media hub for independent record stores offering new and used LPs, 45’s, turntables, turntable parts, DJ equipment and repair services. Independently owned and operated (like the record stores it promotes), this newer version of the site/meeting place/ social hub is good to see. Record store owners can enter their information and create a

profile for their establishment. Stores are rated, and comments can be left about the records store, which is encouraged. Why not have real record diggers and collectors rate these stores so when you look for a store in a city, you get the real deal? Although record digging is all about the thrill of the chase (as many of you know), this is still a great tool. For people who travel and dig frequently, need to find a record store fast to get their black crack fix, equipment repaired (you know how tough it is to get those RCA’s fixed properly on the 1200’s), or just a placed to have their own High Fidelity moment to kill time, Vinyl Hunt will be a great help.

No word yet if there is a mobile app being developed a la The Vinyl District, but having another resource for finding record stores isn’t a bad thing. Glad to see Vinyl Hunt back in the game.
