Soundtrack To An Illusion: A Live Mix

Soundtrack To An Illusion Half Tone

Throughout different periods of music, especially in the late 60’s and early 70’s, many different styles of music were inspired by psychedelia. The use of this music mostly facilitated the listener (who often was under the influence of some sort of psychedelic drug) to another plane or dimension of their mind. Today, I bring you a baker’s dozen of Soul, Funk, Jazz and beats all with a tinge of psychedelics to them. Whether there is some fuzzy guitar, a sitar with some powerful beats behind it, live flutes, acid laced rhythms, or Bollywood inspired soundtrack tunes, Soundtrack To An Illusion contains some tunes I have been feeling lately. It’s not a proper psychedelic mix per say, but rather inspired by what was going on around the musicians at the time. You will recognize some stand out Hip Hop and music samples, a few OST cuts, West Coast Funk, a bit of Fusion with some decent drums, a great Dan the Automator/ Josh Davis collaboration, some great reissue Now Again! Indian Psych and Midwest private press Psych Funk, as well as a track Sun Ra would be proud of (by a band that took the name of one of his records), plus a Brian Auger side that I thought fit right in. With plenty of groove throughout, Soundtrack To An Illusion is something to start your weekend off with. Done all live in one take as usual (pops, clicks, and imperfections included) to give the listener the same feel when I play out. You don’t get to do it over live, so I don’t want to do it over here in my lab. This set is a bit different than usual, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed selecting it and putting it together.
