Here we go again people. On Fridays starting May 1st and throughout the month, DJ Prestige aka Flea Market Funk will be spinning in the lobby of The Ace Hotel in NYC. For those of you not familiar with the Ace, it’s a boutique hotel located in The Flatiron District of Manhattan. It’s two restaurants, The Breslin and The John Dory Oyster Bar are run by April Bloomfield (Spotted Pig), and to be quite honest, have some delicious food. I opt for the Breslin Burger every time, you should too meat eaters. The crowd is a good mix of different people and hotel guests alike. It’s a very chill spot where you can meet for drinks, food, or just have some conversation while listening to a variety of different DJs 6 nights a week. Their motto for music in the lobby is “Spend each night with someone different.” So, for five Fridays in the month of May that will be me. Expect the usual Flea Market Funk offerings: Horace Silver to J Dilla to De La Soul to Lee Perry and everything in between that’s funky and soulful I can squeeze in the 6 or more hours I’m there. There is no dancing in the lobby, unfortunately, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get down. The scene is good, the food and drink and excellent, and I’m making sure your music is top notch. The night is all ages and FREE, so if you’re in the area come on over and say hello. This month there are some great people spinning in the lobby as well. My man Huggy Bear is holding down Saturday nights, while artists like Teen, Amber Martin, Attachments, and the people from Sacred Bones Records keep the other nights bumping.
