Being the parent that I am, I have to pick and choose (and a lot of time it’s out of my hands) when I can get out. Fortunately, I was able to meet my man Mac McRaw out early in his two week stay/DJ gig bit here in NYC. We went to check out a lecture by Pat Thomas, author of Listen Whitey! The Sounds of Black Power 1965-75, but I wasn’t able to make it out to any of his gigs. It’s just how it goes when you’re a parent. Sometimes you get to get out, other times you don’t. Luckily for me, he just upped this set that was recorded at The Shakers’ night at Kinfolk Studios this past Thursday (unbeknownst to him) in Brooklyn. Lucky for you too, because it’s 51 minutes of pure Soul, Breaks, and funky goodness. Repping the Vinyl Veterans out of the UK, Brighton to be exact, Mac McRaw delivers the goods. This mix is a sure way to pick your “it’s just Tuesday” mood. Four more days until Friday people, but Mac will help you ease your pain with this killer mix. Some really exciting sides here (I love the Jimmy Norman “Gangster of Love” those horns!) for you to groove to. The guy has some deep crates and you are all benefiting from that in this mix.
