This week’s Big Ups is special to me. A long time ago, I received a Nightmares On Wax recording of Smoker’s Delight which I loved. It spoke to me almost twenty years ago and it has always been one of my faves. It was funky, and well I could bug out to it. Fast forward a few years later and his DJ Kicks record came out on K7!. A fine mix that blended Hip Hop, Electronica and funky tracks by ATCQ, Kenny Dope, Nightmares On Wax (of course), Paul Nice, D.I.T.C. and others. I was hooked on his sound even more. That mix introduced me to the Martin Brew track “Side Steppin’ “, which is an amazing record in its own right. His music CV is large, putting out records on his own label and Warp Records (he’s the label’s longest running artist) and his style has changed and evolved into many sounds, but it has always remained funky. These days, DJ E.A.S.E. is a busy guy, residing in Ibiza, making music, DJing, and his Wax da Jam party (5+ years strong) is the go to event on the island with such notables as DJ Shadow and Roots Manuva among others stopping by to bless the party and its communal, funky vibe. A guy making great original tracks, doing it his own way, uniting people through the universal language of music, I’m really excited to have E.A.S.E. take time out of his busy schedule to give us an insight on the man behind Nightmares On Wax. Enjoy!
