Mungo’s Hi-Fi – Serious time

Music is born everywhere, sometimes in the most unlikely place. Take Scotland for instance. If you told me this Soundsystem was from Glasgow, I might have taken a double take. But it’s true. All music is universal, and bass is well, bass. Mungo’s Hi-Fi, which has been around since the turn of the millenium, has taken much care to preserve the sound and culture of the past while using present technology to keep the flame burning. Taking a cue from the pioneers in this culture, they spread the real word of music all over the land. A seven man crew make up this sound system, all who have different jobs such as music, producing and releasing the music, running the label, running the shop, playing live shows and putting on promotions. Along with some great musicians, MCs, and movers of equipment, Mungo’s Hi-Fi shines bright through the fog like the Brough of Birsay Lighthouse. With this release, “Serious time”, on Scotch Bonnet Records, available on June 2nd, they have put their foot firmly not just as a Soundsystem, but one who’s releases are to be reckoned with (they have a slew of them!). On this particular release, they line up the vocals of YT, who works over a slow skank of a riddum from start to finish. Spreading positivity to the fullest, it is a serious time, so people get it together please. “Forward thinking Reggae music” as their motto says, is an understatement. Get some Mungo’s Hi-Fi in your life. You won’t regret it.
