Timmion Records are known for their gritty funk records from The Soul Investigators and fantastic soul from Nicole Willis. However, being the soul fans they are, they have been working with a soul legend for a while, continuing his legacy churning out singles (and soon a full length). This legend is none other than New Orleans legend Willie West. You may know Willie West from his hidden gems “Just Having Fun” and “Willie Knows How” among others. He’s been in the Timmion camp for a few years, having previously released the banger “Devil Give Me Everything”. “Down On Lovers Road” is no slouch, as Mr. West slow burns to the tune of gloomy soul on this seven inch. There is real feeling in this single, and your gut tells you that Willie has been down this road before. With The Hi Society Bros. behind him, this single from the forthcoming Lost Soul Lp out November 10th on Light In The Attic Records is perfect slice of soulful pie that will have you funk and soul fanatics wanting more. This man has made music the same way for decades, and we are loving this woeful, but funky side. West takes out the guessing, he’s not sugar coating anything this time.
The flip, “Who’s Fooling Who (She’s So Wise)” is a slick instrumental of a previous released vocal track “She’s So Wise”. Lovers of the Northern sound will drool along with soul junkies at this fresh retake of the tune. Beautiful horns throughout, the back beat just does not stop. But wait for it, a sweet drum break is on order and the choon goes right back into sweet goodness. You may be playing the A Side at the end of the night, but this flip side is a funky soul at its best. This record is available now, and as always Timmion Records stays ahead of the curb with their relases. While everyone else is trying to emulate the old sound, Timmion gives you the real deal with Willie West. Look for the review of the full length Lost Soul coming soon, and an all instrumental version by the Hi Society Brothers in November on Mit-Wit. This will be a limited release you’ll need to get your hands on.
