Well if Pat Van Dyke aka PVD’s new record Right On Time wasn’t enough for you in 2015, he’s back once again with some remixes from 2013’s applauded release Technicolor Hi-Fi. On this 7″ from Cotter Records, he teams up with super producer/ dee jay DJ Spinna to give it a re-lick. One of the best producers around, his diversity is well known, and that’s what made his production stand out in the crowd for many years. It unmistakably has got Spinna remix written all over it. The cooled out drums are taking me back to his work with Mos Def (now Yasiin Bey) and Ronny Jordan’s “Brighter Day” on Rawkus some years ago. With PVD’s superlative playing and Spinna’s production, this dynamic duo crush it. We particularly like the sample selection for “two two two two….”. A nice classic hip hop touch discreetly thrown in. This trip from Jersey City to Brooklyn and back is best played loud. And it’s on a 45 so you know that’s an extra bonus. Limited to 300 pieces, this seven inch has another remix by PVD on the flip, and comes with a download code for 10 track compilation of remixes from around the globe. Featuring John Robinson, Moods, Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble, and more, this is definitely a nice add on to the 7″. PVD has been given accolades from Gilles Peterson, Bobbito Garcia, as well as tastemakers near and far, and this is a perfect example why. The remix series and record are just the tip of the iceberg for him we’re sure. He’s one of the hardest working musicians around and a fave of ours on the NYC scene. It just keeps getting better and better with these records, we can’t wait for the next one. Listen to the track below and don’t hurt your neck from nodding your head too much.
