We’ve been waiting for the return of Damu The Fudgemunk, and it’s like Christmas came early here at FMF. His latest release How It Should Sound Vol. 5 on Redefinition Records is available on October 2nd. It’s time to get excited. Redef have dropped the first single, “Checkmate Execution” which hits you like that first cold day after summer in September. There’s no getting around it. Summer is over and there is no time for playing. This track is the heat you’ve grown to know and love from this hard working producer. As usual, Damu is on point with the drums. They have that snap of “Impeach The President” and a young Marley Marl feel, a nice nod to one of the best to ever do it. However, it’s not just the drums, it’s his layering of sounds that, to us, puts him up on the top tier of producers today as well. The woodwinds, the guitar stab, the atmospheric rise and fall of certain synths and added little goodies that he slides in, that all blend together seamlessly. He has got a distinct sound, it’s his sound. And even if you’re not a beat maker or production head, you can recognize this cat’s talents. We’re well chuffed (as our English friends would say) that he has got something new coming out. You will be too. Check out the track below.
