Parisian organ whiz aka Guillaume Metentier aka Gee is back once again with another 45 from his outfit Soul Sugar. This time he’s recruited Courtney John for some reggae magic. Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica this 45 is a great follow up to his last effort, a dynamite cover of Augustus Pablo’s “East of The River Nile”. “All I Know”, is a dubby, deep seven inch that has John on vocals, Thomas Naim on guitar, Yvo Abadi on drums, and Guillaume Metenier handling multiple instruments: organ, piano, clavinet, elka rhapsody, and bass. Speaking straight from the soul, John unloads vocals that travel right to the most high while Gee and the band keep it strictly dub throughout. For those of you that like your reggae with that heavy bass, it’s all here. We can not wait to hear this on a big system. Reggae as it should be made and played. Gee’s organ once again is superb, and if you think that good reggae music can’t come out of the city of Paris, you’re sadly mistaken. Gee pays homage to the elders on every track, but expands the sound to Soul Sugar’s own. So it definitely has that authentic JA sound we’ve all grown to love. A nice little 45 that will be gone before you know it. Top quality label with much, much soul. Whether it’s Paris or JA, the authentic sounds of Soul Sugar break borders and make ears happy. This record is available on September 15th.
