Today’s treat comes from a very talented musician who has been a part of a music revolution for some time. Joe Tatton, organ player for the fabulous New Mastersounds since 2007 has played on seven studio albums, as well as two with the Haggis Horns, and with Corinne Bailey Rae as well as his own band Rodina. His latest incarnation is the Joe Tatton Trio featuring himself on piano, Neil Innes on bass, and Sam Hobbs on drums. With an extended family of precussionists, guitar players, and brass men, he’s constructed a tune that has been on repeat all morning here in the FleaMarket Funk offices. “Bang Bang Boogaloo” on ATA Records is exactly what you want in a latin tune, especially of the boogaloo kind. The piano chops, an infectious bass line, and percussion that keeps you moving is all we ask for. Joe Tatton and his Trio have that and more. This thing swings baby. Think about Joe Cuba and Young, Holt, Unlimited getting into a studio and fusing their styles together. It’s like “Wack Wack’ meeting “Bang Bang” and having a baby. That baby is Joe Tatton’s music. We’re over the moon about this killer side, and you should be too. They’re not making music like this anymore, and anyone that can instantly transport you back to the Bronx during the boogaloo craze is ok in our book. Listen to the track below, and pre-order the 7″ as well. Well Done Joe Tatton and ATA Records. Thanks for keepin’ it funky!
