The New Orleans future funk collective has released a live video in conjunction with their latest tour and music bundle. For those of you who have no idea who Naughty P is, let’s rewind a bit. Naughty Professor is a jazz/ funk band formed by six forward thinking musicians from around the USA in 2011. Featuring Noah Young (Bass), Ian Bowman (Tenor Saxophone), Nick Ellman (Alto and Baritone Saxophones), John Culbreth (Trumpet), Sam Shahin (Drums), and Bill Daniel (Guitar), these cats carry on the party influenced jazz culture of Nawlins with a high energy presence on the stage. Throwing out both complex compositions and improvised music, Naughty P has garnished attention not just from The Big Easy’s key musicians, but from bands they shared time with on the road such as Rebirth Brass Band, Sam’s Funky Nation, Galactic, Snarky Puppy, and many more. Along with this live video, they have released a Bit Torrent bundle (very clever!) to get new listeners familiar with the band. As if the release, and upcoming tour wasn’t enough, they are going into the studio next month with some heavy hitters. Chali 2na from Jurassic 5 and David Shaw from The Revivalists are two names that will be collaborating with this tight group of funksters. We think that they will be going pretty far, so if you haven’t checked out Naughty P, you can get a glimpse of what they are all about in the live clip below. Always pushing the culture forward, we are excited to bring you a band like this on the pages of FMF. File under jazz funk jam bands. Keep your ears and minds open people, you never know what you’re going to run into.
