As DJ technology gets better, new ideas, new routines, and new events take place. Enter DJCity and their fresh new series called Off The Beat & Path, which explores “portablism”, that is DJs in remote areas cutting it up on portable turntables. The first episode of this interesting new series has DJ Manwell and FlipFlop high up above a beach on a cliff tearing up two tracks produced exclusively by both of them. Armed with a Vestax Handy Trax, Numark Pt 01 and mixfaders, this unique look at turtablism in a remote environment is definitely dope.
Super props out to the operator of the drone who straight kills the video angles and shows you how it’s properly dne. The combination of video, two talented turntablists, as well as tracks tough as nails make this new series a winner in our eyes. The technology we have today is taking scratch DJing and the art to new levels. While some purists might not agree with digital DJing, you can not deny how dope this is. We are partial to the seven inch record (Serato or not), and we applaud these cats and DJCity for starting this new series. It’s always cool to see some new takes on turntablism. Well done.
