No new comer to the reggae game, Chicago’s Jump Up Records has been releasing quality reggae vinyl for the past twenty four years. That’s right, for nearly a quarter century they have been putting out some of the best reggae the Midwest and world has ever seen. On this release, they team up with Akasha, who’s sound is raw and powerful, akin to classic Jamaican sounds from The Wailers, Heptones, Desmond Dekker, The Maytals and The Skatalites among others. This latest output, available on a forty five in either silver or black, conjures conscious memories etched into vinyl from days gone by. “An Eye For An Eye” reiterates the old adage that an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind, something elders have been passing down for generations and a good philosophy in our book if we do say so. Nothing but roots and culture on this side bredren. A most excellent start for your relationship with this band (and label) if you are just hearing about both for the first time. The flip, “You Make Me Feel Good” is a definite love vibe, ska influenced track that professes every lasting love that just conjures up a sunny day, and who doesn’t like to groove to some reggae on a beautiful day? We are well chuffed with this release, as Chicago has been killing it in the reggae game, in fact, all the games as of late.
