Today we have two belters out of the Funk Night Records camp. If you haven’t been following Funk Night or Misha Panfilov then you are missing out. Combining the best of deep funk, cinematic soundtracks, psychedelia and more, the Misha Panfilov Sound Combo are quite honestly the funk you have never heard of. Those in the know have scooped up these highly sought after 45s in the present day, soon to be hard to get your hands on once they are gone and become that future classic we all know and love. This time, it’s two sides of in your face deep funk to get the windows rattling. “In The Woods”, could have come out of in mid ’60’s with it’s heavy guitars and organ, with a swirling back beat and bass lines that scream original soundtrack to it. Reminds us of one of those Arrow Records releases that went along with some motor cycle movie. This is straight forward funky. The flip, “Caveman” gets heavy, heavy on the bass and while the guitar licks keep your head nodding, it’s safe to say that the Misha Panfilov Sound Combo knows their way around some funky drums. Punctuated with some screams and sound effects, this is the side for us. Raw and gritty, and moving towards the psych side, this is a side we will be lifting the needle on over and over again.
