NOLA Breaks is back once again with two scorchers of Nawlins funk to get your blood pumping and neck snapping where ever you are. In the past they’ve tackled re-edits of Inell Young, Rueben Wilson, The Meters, and more. Both sides of the pond are represented on this project as there are remixes from both the US and the UK. First up is Miss Betty Harris and her classic “Mean Man” which gets the straight up Professor Shorthair remix adding some extra tough drums and tight cuts to inject a little hip hop flavor into the original which stood tall on its own on the Sansu label. This version, updated and fresh, goes along with all of the NOLA Breaks releases and respects the original tune while adding some more spice to the gumbo.
The flip is by UK masters The Allergies, who tackle Robert Parker’s “Everybody’s Hip Huggin’ “. Beefed up like Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, their B-Boy ethic and funk knowledge is the perfect match for this relick. Sampling themselves as well as some classic materiel, this party rocker will for sure have the dance floor moving. If you are a fan of this duo, you know how they have the knack for making some block rockin’ beats for the masses to shake their asses to. If you don’t know them, here’s a funky introduction of how nice they are. Most definitely a keeper. Listen to both tracks below.
