For those of you who couldn’t be in Japan on Record Store day to pick up a gem like this, here’s your chance. We’ve been singing the praises of Soul Sugar for years, and for RSD ’18, they released an all dub version of their terrific record Chase The Light. For those who haven’t experienced Soul Sugar, these excursions in funk, soul, reggae, & dub hit even harder in their version. Interpretations of records by Timmy Thomas (“Why Can’t We Live Together”), Jackie Mittoo (“Big Car”/ “Get Up and Get It”), and Augustus Pablo (“East of The River Nile”) are paired with cuts that feature silky smooth vocalists Courtney John and Leon Charmichael, as well as an appearance by Blue Note legend Dr. Lonnie Smith. Led by the ever talented Guillaume “Gee” Metenier, multi-instrumentalist and band leader who takes charge on Hammond organ, Piano, Clavinet, Minimoog, Fender Rhodes, Elka Rhapsody, Melodica, and Synth bass, he’s surrounded himself once again with the best of the best musicians such as Thomas Naim on guitar and drummers Yvo Abadi and Jahno. This is quality music vocal version or dub. We think that these dub versions really satisfy your aural pallette, and here’s a chance to get it. Limited to one per person, there are still an hand full of the green vinyl available via bandcamp that were sold in the Tokyo HMV on RSD.
