Next weekend from Friday to Sunday in Jersey City (5.18 to 5.20), there will be a record sale at what was once the oldest record store in JC. Stan’s Square Records, founded and run by Stan Krause was in business for over fifty years. He was not just an owner, but a record producer as well, that put out records on his Catamount label (doo wop, soul, hip hop). Sadly and unfortunately, Stan passed in 2016. Some friends have put together a proper close out sale for the store. There are thousands of 45s and Lps, CDs, cassettes, DVDs, posters, magazines, and more that will be up for sale on these dates. They start at $1 each on Friday, drop to 2 for $1 on Saturday, and then finally 4 for $1 on the last day of the sale Sunday. There are a lot of records being offered that were off-limits to customers during the time the store was open, and will be available to buyers for the first time at this sale. Sealed copies include Fourteen Karat Soul’s “Lovers Fantasy” LP on Catamount from 1977 and Chill Divine’s “Puttin’ It Wildly / Long Live The Lyrical” 12″ on Square Records from 1990 are available at the sale price. These records go for $10+ elsewhere and will be included in the sale pricing. There are a variety of time periods of music and which also include new, unplayed copie of 45s on Catamount, Phil L.A. Of Soul, Jamie, Carnival, House of the Fox, and more. Also available are store fixtures, stereo equipment and a whole lot more (although not at the sale prices, reasonable offers only please).
