“Natty dread want you to want me” is all you need to know. Seriously. French outfit Soul Sugar are back once again, and this time they pull out a great reinterpretation of the Marvin Gaye classic “I Want You”. Featuring Leonardo Carmichael on stunning vocals, and backed again by some of the best musicians, band leader Guillaume “Gee” Metenier, takes this deep track even deeper with a soulful reggae cover. Carmichael, who is a Jamaican native smashes it out of the park with his silky smooth vocals, the Discomix version of the track is just superb. Honestly, up there with the best soulful reggae tracks we have heard. But it gets even better, as Gee teams up with Sly and Robbie to do both a vocal mix and a dub version. The duo, who have been putting their signature sound to endless classics in reggae since the 1960’s, deliver a top shelf version of this track as well. You’d expect nothing less from these legends. And let’s face it, Gee has always moved in a direction that seriously elevates the band (Soul Sugar), or other artists he has worked with in the past. This project does the same thing, and with that collaboration with Sly and Robbie, this one is going to be hot not just for the summer, but for years to come. Check out all the tracks below:
