Well, it’s been a minute since we have heard from SoCal Cinematic Soul trailblazers The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, and you know the saying: “Good things come to those who wait”. It’s true people, because once again the group comes correct with another 45 that we all can approve of. Taken from their upcoming full length, they give us a cover of the great Roy Ayers tune “Aragon”. Not only is this great because it’s a cover of one of the greats, but it’s taken from one of his best records IMHO, the soundtrack to the movie Coffy. Now we know what you’re thinking, man, another cover, how can it compare to the original? If you’re asking that question, fair enough, but then you haven’t been a fan of one of the hardest working bands around. They do a bang up, heavy percussion filled take on this classic. With some moody organ work and a beat that will have you up in no time, we’ve also got to give it up like Marvin Gaye to the horn work as well. It’s a respectful nod to Mr. Ayers and company and a fresh take on the song itself. TSFSE have solidified their place in the funk and soul world since 2014, adding in the afro-latin flavor to their own brand of funky stuff, churning out dance floor friendly records. This record is further proof. Listen to the record below:
