Get your week started with K.A.A.N’s third vinyl release, Subtle Meditation, on Redefinition Records. Although this is the third collabo with ReDef, the man has over 20 releases, a stalwart in this music game that pushes through the muddy and murky waters of the music industry to rise to the top Kenny Burke style. At forty one minutes, this thirteen track release touches on topics that run from self destruction, the social climate in the US today, failure, depression, anxiety, and more. This record hits home for everyone with these topics, which are thought provoking and are in need of discussion. On this project he enlisted the help of producers like The 45 King, K-def, and Ukranian whiz Smuff tha Quiz (who did the majority of the beats for the record). Executive produced by Damu The Fudgemunk, who co-produces, mixed, and mastered the entire project (not to mention laid down the superb scratches on every track). Stand out tracks are “Progression” (smooth beats and flow, help is on the way feel), “Revolving Doors” (more smoothness and reflection, “you can’t afford a time machine to reverse the things my eyes have seen”), “The Thrill Is Gone” (The 45 King track, vibes galore), and “Shoot Me Down” (K-Def production, hot vibes and a horn hook and tough drums that are a great match with K.A.A.N’s flow and verses). But let’s face it: as a whole, the record is top notch. From the rhymes to the flow to the production to the messages (which we feel are so important). K.A.A.N is not doing this for commercial fame, but really laying it down on the real. It’s why he is successful on so many levels. He is keeping it real unlike many who are trying to do the same. This one is one of the best this year and one of the best we have heard on ReDef, Album art by the ever talented Joe Buck (De La Soul/ Lil’ Wayne/ Nike/ Staple) and pressed in limited neon vinyl and full color fluorescent jackets. Don’t miss out on this one, it’s a future classic for sure. Listen to the record below:
