Coming straight at ‘cha this morning is a new, doubled sided slice of goodness from the Lugnut Brand Records family: The Railroad Avenue Bullies. Put together by label head honcho Chris Lujan for Austin, Texas guitar champion Nick Diaz, the record also features Chris Hazelton on Hammond Organ, Joe Baer Magnant on Rhythm Guitar, Michael Reed on Drums, Lujam on Bass, and Diaz on lead guitar. This one hits hard, with a heavy dose of blues filled funk. It’s an Albert King meets James brown style of grooves on this seven. “Alligator Shoes” jumps right up on you with more blues funk than you could shake a stick at, Diaz’s guitar blazing on every corner….loud. Joined in by that funky bass of Lujan, the smoking Hammond from Hazelton. and the rest of the unit forming like Voltron to go right down blues alley and back again. Most likely strutting in alligator shoes we bet. The flip, “She Ready” is the more funkier of the tunes, Hazleton’s Hammond shining bright, the track upbeat and moving. Diaz shreds on this one too. It’s modern day blues funk with a serious nod to the originators. With a limited run of 300 records pressed up, this one will not lay around for long. Don’t get cold feet on this 45, Lugnut Brand has jumped into the blues with their funk and it’s a hit straight out the gate.
