We are saddened to hear about the death of DJ/ producer/ musician Andrew Weatherall at age 56. His production of Primal Scream’s Screamedelica, especially the track “Loaded” (which has been a staple in our sets for years) was always something we were nuts over. But it wasn’t just that. His acid house DJ days, championing the Chemical Brothers before anyone, remixing the New Order World Cup song with Terry Farley, producing Beth Orton’s Trailer Park album, plus amazing remixes for artists like My Bloody Valentine, Björk, and Saint Etienne among others. He was a hero to many musicians and fans alike. Even if you weren’t aware of his name in your household, some part of Weatherall has touched your musical likes in some way at some moment.
Here’s what his management had to say about his death:
We are deeply sorry to announce that Andrew Weatherall, the noted DJ and musician passed away in the early hours of this morning, Monday 17th February 2020, at Whipps Cross Hospital, London. The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. He was being treated in hospital but unfortunately, the blood clot reached his heart. His death was swift and peaceful.
A tastemaker who did it his way, rest in paradise Mr. Weatherall. Gone too soon like so many others. Here’s the Primal Scream track that we could never get enough of:
