DLG 3 – Hot Chicken

Bringing us some funky cheer in this time of need, the DLG 3 churn out a certified funk heater with their new release “Hot Chicken”. First off, we love food inspired records, and as our main man Pat James Longo will tell you: “You can not go wrong with a funk instrumental about food.” Whether it’s steak, hot biscuits, apple pie, hamburgers, or the many tunes about the many ways you can make chicken, we’re all in when a tune like this comes our way. The DLG 3 are based out of New York City. and this organ trio (you know how we feel about them) is lighting up the BBQ and getting down with some greasy funk for the people on this track. Inspired by hanging on Frenchman Street in New Orleans during tours, the track also features Jesse Blum of The MisterWives on trumpet along with Russ Paladino on saxophone, including Greg Lewis aka “organ Monk” on B3, Mike DeConzo on drums and guitarist John Lynch. With a nod to the 1970’s funk bands and of course the Big Easy itself, it is very easy to get lost in this track from start to finish. Gritty and horn-heavy, it’s definitely one we can get behind here at Flea Market funk. Our only question is, when is it going to be on a seven inch? This one needs to be spun on turntables everywhere. Recommended if you like The Meters, Stax Records, and other independent regional Southern one-off funk forty-fives you have in your collection. Have a listen for yourself and purchase the track digitally after the stream.
