Kind & Kinky Zoo and Rickey Calloway – Hot Love

Ending your week off in the right way, we’ve got one of the best bands out there collabing with one of the greatest soul singers you may never have heard of. Rickey Calloway, the soul man who’s been around for decades making beautiful funk and soul music on independent labels, most recently Funk Night, Kay Dee, and now linking up with Kind & Kinky Zoo on this great track “Hot Love”. Rickey delivers no less than a beautiful vocal performance on this seven inch, waxing poetic about on how his woman “rocks his world”. It’s a soulful funk trip that slow burns down the highway until the flute kicks in and it gets into a fuzzy, psych/ funk goodness that not only shows the range and quick change of pace for Calloway, but the ability of KKZ to rock it like they do. Side note, we’re a sucker for a flute, but the drums hit pretty hard too right here. This is more like early seventies sounding (think Verigo stuff meets ‘Nawlins grit) then the 2020’s, but we’ll take what they are laying down for sure. Calloway also has a documentary out as well, that if you haven’t seen, we’d be remiss to not let you know about. He’s a super talented singer and one of the last few funk and soul cats to keep that torch lit for the cause. Check out both sides below and pre-order after the stream.
